Thank you Robert for using your platform to bring light to this travesty. I get it that you are focusing on leadership and how Columbia's president failed miserably - which she did. However let us not forget that any university's president reports to a Board of Trustees. As Minouche Shafik is still sitting in the president's office, Columbia's Board of Trustees is equally culpable. Interesting that the day your post was published, University of Florida released a document clearly spelling out its position. My guess is University of Florida will finish the semester with in-person classes and will celebrate on-campus graduation as planned.
Excellent, Bob. These "rules to live by" for universities and other organizations could provide workable solutions to stop the madness. This is a useful step-by-step with proven results. We must urge all our Alma maters to implement them. ASAP. #NEVERAGAINISNOW
I am utterly appalled at the blatant, tone-deaf application of a set of abstract principles to a real and grave situation that calls for said rules to be bent in the service of human life and human rights.
I understand your frustration, but this logic heads down a road of illiberalism.
There is nothing abstract here. If everyone gets to make their cause, concern, worry the root of lawlessness, the whole system breaks down very quickly. A lot of Jewish parents out there consider what’s going on campus a clear and present danger to their kids. Can they bend the rules and do whatever they want? Rough up some of the antagonists?
Been thinking about this a lot especially after watching the president’ testimony to Congress when questioned by Rep Stefanik. Is it weak leadership where she does not have the skills or abilities to regain order on her campus OR is it possible that her primary agenda and what she sees as her purpose, to facilitate the goals of those protesting? I have been watching and listening to many NYC electeds and it seems quite clear that instead of representing ALL their constituents or enforcing the laws of our city, they see their purpose as creating sweeping change and upheaval to society. Sometimes leadership lethargy and doublespeak is because the leader really supports it. Look at many of the statements from various electeds celebrating what has occurred? Who is the boss she is answering too and maybe that tells us how capable of leader she really is? Few things are really out of a person’s control when they sit in the top spot.
Thank you for using your platform to draw attention to these important issues in a clear, articulate manner. Hate has no place on college campuses, especially at top-tier learning institutions like Columbia.
It is absolutely disgusting to see these institutions abandon their own codes of conducts in the interest of “negotiating” with violent demonstrations. The system is failing tomorrow’s leaders, and something has to change.

Outstanding, Robert.

Unsubscribed.

Again, the true test of values is consistency.

What violence are you referring to? Is it organized on the part of the protestors? Who is it directed at?

You are spot on! Silence is complicity and the blatant lack of leadership of the academic authorities is appalling. Thank you for speaking up.
He is spot on 100%, but silence is not complicity. There are a million things going on every day that you don't have the time to talk about
