I cannot believe the lack of self awareness I see on both sides of the political divide when they defend an action by “their guy” which they would heartily condemn if taken by someone from the “other side”.
And the second cousin of this double standard is the “what aboutism “ that we hear daily. When confronted with wrong doing by “their guy” the immediate response is that he/she on the other side did something worse.
I learned in kindergarten that “two wrongs don’t make a right”. Sad that our society has collectively lost sight of this basic fact.
Great grounding and reminder - thank you. And a reminder also why it was so disheartening to see individuals who violently assaulted law enforcement officers on January 6th 2021 get pardoned...
Robert, I have been a long-time fan of Friday Forward and want to say how much I appreciated your willingness to delve into politics last week. Your writing and logic are spot on, and it is a shame that most leaders in all branches and sides at every level (local, state, and federal) do not have the wherewithal to embrace and call out these fundamental beliefs when they are misaligned with what has shaped our democracy over time.
But what with America and Israel and antisemitism?
I don't get it...the Jews in America only forms 2% yet look at the resources and devotion the state is pushing in support to Israel and its citizens.
It takes two hands to clap....I see you are only holding one hand you should also acknowledge the other side.
I dare you to write a piece about Israel and how they are handing the Gaza people, West Bank,Jordan etc and all that slogan of change the face of Middle East.
Don't we have laws governing this things yet are they following those laws ...sometimes we act in accordance to the nature or the situation or crisis. What will it take for a government denying its universities fundings because of antisemitism to hear student plight of the phalastine community.
So please right is right and wrong is wrong.
If you want to validate or criticize please do it appropriately and proportional.
Abdolutely true
